What is tallow and how is it made?
Tallow is a rendered form of beef fat that is solid at room temperature. It is made by slowly heating beef fat until it melts and separates from any remaining tissue or water. The resulting liquid is then filtered and allowed to cool, producing a creamy white substance that is full of vitamins and has a long shelf life.
Why is tallow used in skincare?
Tallow is used in skincare because it is a natural, well-tolerated, highly nourishing and moisturizing fat. It is rich in absorbable fat soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, B, D, E, and K, antioxidants, and fatty acids. These components can help improve skin texture, reduce inflammation, and enhance the skin's natural barrier function.
Can anyone use tallow?
Tallow is generally well tolerated by almost everyone. It is safe for infants and people with sensitive skin. However, those who are allergic to beef may have an issue with tallow. As always, do a small patch test before applying liberally. Speak to your healthcare provider before applying a new product on your baby.
Does tallow clog pores?
Tallow ranks low on the comedogenic scale. It has the ability to soothe, reduce and prevent acne. Several customers have had great success using our tallow creams on acneic skin. Using less is a good approach. If you have severe acne, you can try using the Oil Cleansing Method with tallow to see how your skin reacts. Do a simple search on how to use tallow with this method. Everyone's skin is different. Do a small patch test before applying liberally. If your condition worsens, tallow may not be right for you. Discontinue use.
Can I use tallow as a daytime moisturizer before applying makeup?
It depends. Tallow is very rich and is recommended for nighttime use. However, if you have very dry skin, live in a dry or cold climate, or do not wear any foundation, you may apply a small amount of tallow after you wash your face. Please allow 5-10 minutes to fully absorb. You can also use the oil cleansing method for daytime use.
How Often Should I apply tallow on my face and body?
It depends on your type of skin. Generally for the face we recommend applying our tallow cream on clean skin before bedtime. If you have severely thirsty skin, you can apply more than once. You can apply tallow on your body as needed.

Are the cows ethically raised?
Lipidology sources their cattle from organic, grass fed, grass finished Ontario farms. The cows are not caged or mass produced and are free from antibiotics, growth hormones, GMO feed.
