Best tallow balm for sensitive baby skin
How Tallow Helps With Baby Rashes
When we first decided to start making tallow products, we wanted to address our personal skin needs, like dry skin and acne.
Back in 2018, before tallow was trending in skincare, I was on the hunt for alternative cosmetics that were hard to find anywhere here in Canada.
The first product we made was a simple unscented tallow balm that has only a few ingredients, mostly made of nutrient rich tallow. Using this on my face and body addressed many issues that I was struggling with, including very dry, tight and flaky skin, clogged pores and some creases that I wanted to smooth out.
Using tallow to treat cradle cap, diaper rashes and other baby skin issues
I then began experimenting with other blends, including grass fed beef tallow and emu oil. This combination has become a customer favourite, and we have had several mothers tell us that they use it for treating their baby’s skin issues, like cradle cap, diaper rash, rashes of all kinds, eczema and dermatitis. This gave me a whole new appreciation for our craft. To know that the little ones are also benefitting from our products is such a win.
The selection of baby products available in most grocery stores is full of artificial creams, balms and ointments. Apparently, many of the giant companies in the consumer goods industry do not have the baby's interest in mind when formulating products. Instead, they are often driven by the incentive to push cheap products for big profits. From baby formulas and snacks to shampoos and soaps, newborns and toddlers are exposed to an array of chemicals in the formative years of their life.
The problem is perpetuated by misinformed parents and consumers who vote every day with their dollars and support large conglomerates that use cheap ingredients.
I remember when I was a kid some of the products my mom used on us that were under the guise of being 'safe for baby' like shampoo and lotions which gave me rashes and skin issues. I wish I knew then what I know now.
Case study: treating baby’s eczema

It is always gratifying to get positive customer reviews, especially when they tell us about how our products have helped their family overcome some major challenges. One of our customers left us a review showing how Lipidology emu balm helped her treat her baby’s eczema rash on his little face. She kindly gave us permission to reproduce her review for this blog.
This adorable baby was only 4 months old at the time. Steph had tried a commercial lotion that that only made his rash worse. She wanted a simpler, natural solution, so she decided to try Lipidology’s emu balm, which has only two simple ingredients. Remarkably, she said it started working within one day of applying it twice, once in the morning and once in the evening.
Tallow as a nipple balm
It worked so well that she decided to use it as a nipple cream which helped tremendously with chaffing and she appreciated the fact that it is made with food grade ingredients which makes it safe for nursing.
Emu is a known anti-inflammatory oil that is derived from the emu bird. Blended with our grass fed beef tallow, Lipidology emu balm is a potent yet gentle superfat that can help heal and seal the skin, even on sensitive areas.
Why Lipidology emu oil is so good for babies and mommies
While many of Lipidology products are great for adults, our emu tallow blend is one of the most simple, gentle and bioavailable sources of topically applied nutrients and moisture for sensitive skin. We use natural, pure ingredients with zero colourants, fragrances, synthetics, stabilizers or fillers.
We strive to make the highest quality tallow products available to everyone and go to great lengths to source these ingredients from reputable suppliers with strong standards for raising livestock in healthy and humane ways.
